The frisbee action moved indoors in Term 2 with the College Sport Auckland Indoor Ultimate Championships held at Pulman Arena.
Eighteen teams from ten schools competed across the Open and Girls divisions with first-time entries from Birkenhead College and Rosmini College. The games were played in a fun, competitive atmosphere – as befits the self-refereed sport of Ultimate.
The last round saw many close games as the teams sorted themselves out into groups that matched their abilities. In the Open final, Westlake Boys High School took on Auckland Grammar with Auckland Grammar taking the title 9-4. The Girls Division saw Pakuranga College take on favourites Epsom Girls Grammar, but it was Epsom Girls who came away with the 10-6 win.
The Spirit of the Game Award is used to measure teams’ knowledge of and adherence to the rules (very important when you have to referee yourselves) and these awards were won by Westlake Boys High School 1 and Epsom Girls Grammar 1 – showing you can play at the top level while still displaying great sportsmanship.
Term 4 will see the first College Sport Auckland Junior Ultimate Championships and what should be another great event.
